Milan Township is a proud and historic community located in Erie County, Ohio. With a population of approximately 3,580 residents spread across 25.91 square miles, the township offers a peaceful blend of rural charm, rich history, and modern amenities. Our residents enjoy the space and character of a country setting while remaining connected to surrounding towns and regional travel routes.


Where We Are

Situated in north-central Ohio, Milan Township is conveniently crossed by State Route 250, State Route 113, State Route 13, and a portion of the Ohio Turnpike (I-80/90). This ideal location provides easy access to nearby cities while maintaining a quiet, small-town atmosphere. The township includes a mix of residential, agricultural, commercial, and industrial zoning, supporting a well-rounded and diverse community.

Township Services & Safety

Milan Township provides essential safety services for both township and Village residents. Fire protection is handled by the Milan Township Volunteer Fire Department, operated by the Township Trustees and led by Chief Brian Rospert. The department runs out of two stations—one on Center Street and another at State Route 13—and serves the entire community with a team of trained volunteers.

Emergency medical services are provided by North Central EMS, a long-standing partner of the Township since the 1980s. They offer 911 response along with other medical transport services.

Education

Milan Township is served by the Edison Local School District, which includes Edison Elementary, Edison Middle School, and Edison High School. The district educates approximately 1,400 students and is headquartered right in the Village of Milan.

Edison Local has a strong reputation for academic achievement and student support. On the 2023–2024 Ohio School Report Card, the district received an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars, exceeding state standards in key areas such as academic achievement, graduation rate, and closing educational gaps. The district’s graduation rate stands at 97%, significantly above the state average.

Teachers in the district average 21 years of experience, with a strong record of attendance and classroom dedication. Edison Local is also part of the EHOVE Career Center Planning District, offering students hands-on career and technical education opportunities in addition to traditional academics.

The district continues to play a vital role in preparing Milan Township students for success in higher education, the workforce, and beyond.

Milan Township encourages resident participation in local governance and community development. The township is overseen by a Board of Trustees and a Fiscal Officer, elected by local voters. Additionally, the Zoning Commission and Board of Appeals meet as needed to consider land use matters and appeals.
