Milan Township is an unincorporated township offering a wide range of services to the 3,580 persons living in the unincorporated area. It is governed by three elected Trustees responsible for basic township governance and an elected Fiscal Officer who functions as the financial manager.

The Milan Township Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing at 7:00 pm on Monday, June 30, 2025, in the Community Room of the Milan Township Hall, located at 24 Park Street, Milan, Ohio (corner of Church and Park Streets.) The purpose of the hearing is to consider the request of Thomas X. Kline, 3306 Mason Road, in Milan Twp., Erie County, Ohio and listed on the Erie County Auditor’s Map as Parcel 50-00908.000 for a variance from the Milan Township Zoning Resolution, Article 11.6, 8) Accessory Structures shall not exceed the square footage of the first floor of the main dwelling and/or must be subordinate in floor area to the principal use.

Fire Department

The Milan Township Volunteer Fire Department provides a full range of services to both the Township and the Village of Milan. It also furnishes emergency services to Norwalk Township on a contract basis.

Maintenance, Roads, and Parks

The department is responsible for clearing and maintaining approximately 24.5 miles of Township roads; maintaining and improving Edison Park; maintaining the Milan Township Hall, and the Township offices at 1518 St. Rt. 113E.

Zoning Department

The department handles all requests for zoning permits and requests for variances through the Township’s Board of Zoning Appeals. They recommend changes to the Township Zoning Resolution as needed to meet changing needs for land usage.
